Oscar winner, Marymount alumnus Kevin Willmott in Salina for free showing of 'The 24th'
A familiar face in Kansas filmmaking who has ties to Salina is returning to the city this week for a free screening of his latest film.
Kevin Willmott, a graduate of Marymount College, won an Oscar as co-writer of the Spike Lee film "BlacKkKlansman," and is scheduled to be speak at the Salina Art Center Cinema Thursday after the theater shows his latest film "The 24th."
Willmott, who grew up in Junction City and is now a professor in film and media studies at the University of Kansas, said bringing the film to the art center was something that came together easily.
"Salina Art Center has always been very supportive of our movies," Willmott said. "They contacted me a while back, wanting to put something together. We found a date and...it all came about."
