Professor to curate Orson Wells film series

Monday, April 27, 2015

John Tibbetts is curating and presenting a five-film series in May at the Main Downtown Library in Kansas City,MO in honor of Orson Welles's 100th birthday. Hollywood's maverick genius was born on the 6th of May, 1915.  The five films are screened in the Library Vault Screening room on the following dates:

May 2--CITIZEN KANE
May 9--THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS
May 16--TOUCH OF EVIL
May 23--CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT
May 30--F IS FOR FAKE

Be advised that opportunities to see Welles's late masterpiece, CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT, his adaptation of several Shakespearean plays, are extremely rare as the film is not at this time commercially available.

Also, John has just submitted the manuscript for his new book, HOLLYWOOD SPEAKS!, to  Palgrave Macmillan for publication next Fall.  The book collects interviews John has conducted during the last four decades with film notables working behind the camera.  They include directors (Steven Spielberg, Bernardo Bertolucci, Mira Nair, Robert Altman, George Miller, etc.); writers (Ray Bradbury); producers (John Houseman and Jim Henson); Disney animators (Ollie Johnston); sound designers (Bernard B. "The Jazz Singer" Brown); stunt persons (Richard Farnsworth); documentarians (Michael Moore); special effects technicians (Richard Edlund), cinematographers (Allen Daviau); and critics (Roger Ebert), etc.
