Ph.D. student wins award for paper on Italian neorealism in film

Wednesday, April 8, 2015

Ph.D. student Eric Lackey received the Post Script Graduate Student in Film Studies Award for his paper, “Cinematic Realism and Contemporary US Cinema of Immigrant Labor,” at the annual Southwest Popular/American Culture Association Conference in Albuquerque, NM.  The paper focuses on two films, Man Push Cart (2005) and A Better Life (2011), which draw from the influence of Italian Neorealism to bring attention to contemporary issues, such as social and economic precarity and discrimination, surrounding the immigrant experience in the U.S.  The award included a monetary prize and a submission for potential publication in Post Script: Essays in Film and the Humanities.
