The 67th Annual University Film and Video Association (UFVA) Conference, a gathering of national and international filmmakers, scholarships and teachers, will be held at Chapman University from July 29 to August 3, 2013. This year's conference theme is "Story First" and a range of panels, paper presentations and workshops will engage that subject. In addition, hundreds of films, numerous scripts and two dozen new media exhibits will offer thought-provoking words, sounds and images.
Doctoral students David Sutera and Juli Stone Pitzer are present at this year's event. Sutera will show his film Vaudeville on the Diamond (D, 65 min. WIP) on Saturday, August 3rd. The film is a travelogue, director-participant documentary that draws a connection between American Vaudeville and the promotional acts many minor league baseball teams produce to attract fans to the games. Stone Pitzer is participating in a panel session on Editing Pedagogy and will present various instructional editing practices and examples from the classroom on Friday, August 2nd.
