Professor Robert Hurst has released the first trailer for his upcoming documentary about crisis line volunteers. The Listeners is the upcoming documentary feature film exploring the role of crisis phone lines in mental health care and the many people, often volunteers, who answer calls. The film follows a cohort of new volunteers at the Headquarters Counseling Center in Lawrence, Kansas, who undergo rigorous training to staff crisis lines. The Listeners will deliver a powerful and uplifting message of acceptance, altruism, and empathy. Directed and Produced by Hurst, it will premiere in September of 2015.
